I hate when people say “oh god, Marilyn Monroe sucked at acting”. The first time I ever saw her in a picture was ‘Gentleman Prefer Blondes’ and the minute she spoke I thought the exact same thing. “She sounds so fake” and “that’s why she always played the dumb roles”. And I thought I couldn’t watch any further, but I gave it a shot. By the end of the movie I was convinced she was one of the most spectacular actresses ive ever seen. Sure she plays dumb and of course shes no Elizabeth Taylor, but Marilyn has this amazing quality I have yet to see in another actress. The quality of drawing you in and keeping your attention. There could be a circus going crazy behind her in a scene while she just stands there but the only thing youre looking at is her. Im not saying its soley because of her body and her looks. Im saying she carried this extreme sense of charisma and charm that exuded out of her. A sense of confidence and grace. And she COULD act. Marilyn also studied with the Strasbergs the last part of her career and that shows on the screen in such films like ‘Some Like It Hot’ and ‘The Misfits’. She had talent to begin with and she became more and more crafted at her skill. She was much more than just a body.
